Craig McCord Fine Art Photography
Ongoing Work in Color
While black-and-white remains my foundation, I continue to work with color when the subject demands it—when hue carries emotional weight, geological nuance, or atmospheric tension that monochrome can't fully express. In those moments, color becomes not just a visual choice, but a narrative necessity.
Why Black and White
One cannot deny that black and white fine art images possess a unique quality and timeless appeal. While my primary focus is on black and white landscape photography, I occasionally explore other subjects when their structure, texture, or distinctive features capture my interest. In essence, if something catches my eye and inspires me to consider a scene through an artistic and compositional lens, it becomes fair game for my work.
Some important considerations as well are that black and white images represent a deliberate and thoughtful departure from reality. By removing color, one gains significantly more creative freedom and control, since color can often serve more as a distraction rather than an enhancement to the composition. Additionally, the timeless and classic nature of black and white photography carries a unique and enduring appeal that resonates deeply with many viewers on an emotional and aesthetic level.
