Arches National Park is one of the beautiful gems of the National Park System.  Join Craig McCord as he guides you through great photographic locations, including Balanced Rock, The Windows, Delicate Arch, Park Avenue & the Courthouse Towers, Double Arch, and more.  There are simply too many location to mention all.  We will also explore nearby Dead Horse Point State Park.  Also, there will be an opportunity for some night photography by moonlight.

 Some field instruction objectives will include:

  • Focusing Techniques for landscape photography

  • Getting the most from your wide angle lens compositions

  • Exposure and histograms made simple

  • night time exposure techniques

Optional exercises in black and white field work and post processing will also be included for those interested. 

The workshop is open to all skill levels and the workshop will be limited to only 6 participants.  This will ensure quality one-on-one instruction time will all attendees.  The emphasis will be on field instruction; however, there will be some time for constructive image review and post processing demonstrations using Lightroom, Photoshop and NIK and Luminar plugins.  The overriding objective is helping capture memorable images while helping you advance your photographic skills to the next level.

Most locations are easily accessible.  There will be some locations that may require some hiking with some moderate inclines.  Accordingly, you must be in good physical condition and have adequate hiking shoes.

Weather:  Average temperatures in Arches in March range between 35 and 64 degrees F. However there could very well be deviations from those temps on both ends, as weather can be somewhat unpredictable in March and early Spring.  Please plan clothing accordingly.

The workshop will kick off at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 19th. We will gather in the lobby of the AArchway Inn,1151  N Riverview Dr, Moab Utah. Starting off we will go over some administrative matters, get to know one another, and go over the workshop shooting itinerary. Then we will head out for our first session to capture the evening sunset at a location inside Arches National Park.


Lodging: Checking in on March 19th, checking out on March 23rd, we will be basing out of the AArchway Inn, 1551 N Riverview Dr, Moab, Utah., where rooms have been set aside for our group. Contact them directly at (435) 259-2599 to make your reservations. Indicate that you are with the Craig McCord Photography group when making your reservation.

Fee: $1195: Workshop fee is for instruction only and does not cover lodging, meals, travel to/from the workshop. Car pooling will be encouraged during photo shoots. A $300 deposit will be required at the time of registration. Balance will be due no later than 60 days prior to the workshop start date.

Transportation: Travel to and from the workshop is the attendee’s responsibility. Commercial transportation such as air travel and/or rental car expenses will not be reimbursed under any circumstances. It is unlikely a workshop be cancelled; nonetheless, it is highly recommended you consider travel insurance. Car sharing is recommended for travel and to and from shooting locations to minimize footprint.
